South African SABS Certification and Applicable Product Range and Processes

South African SABS Certification is the abbreviation for the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), which is a mandatory product certification in South Africa. As long as regulated products are exported to South Africa, an SABS certificate must be presented. Currently, there are about 70 mandatory standards in South Africa, mainly involving electronic and electrical equipment and its components, motor vehicles and their components, and food. The certification of electronic and electrical products mainly involves safety and electromagnetic compatibility. Electrical and electronic equipment and its components must obtain an authorization letter (LOA) and an electromagnetic compatibility certificate (COC) before production and import.

Conditions for SABS Certification:
1. The product complies with a SABS/SANS national standard;
2. The product passes the relevant standard test;
3. The quality system meets the ISO 9000 requirements or other specified requirements;
4. Only products and quality systems that meet all requirements can apply for use of the SABS logo;
5. Conventional product testing must be conducted under guidance and the test results must be submitted and made public;
6. Quality system assessment must be conducted at least twice a year and requires a comprehensive assessment.

Process for Applying for SABS Certification:
1. The manufacturer fills out the application form;
2. If there are more than one factory, an additional application form is required. The application form must include all products certified. In addition, the factory must fill out an application form for the integrity of the responsible person, who must guarantee the first inspection fee and other certification fees;
3. A quotation is issued;
4. The factory is inspected;
5. A contract for annual supervision is prepared;
6. Two inspectors will conduct random inspections each year, and the costs of annual supervision and testing will be specified in the contract;
7. The inspectors will randomly select samples for laboratory testing;
