More than 6,000 public safety agencies in the United States oppose a ban on Chinese drones because of their high dependence and lack of alternatives. Texas police and sheriff's departments use DJI drones, and farmers commonly use Chinese-made drones for spraying. A ban would hurt a number of areas in the U.S.

July 16, 2011 - According to media reports, the U.S. is increasingly failing on the matter of banning Chinese drones.

Recently, more than 6,000 public safety agencies, police and fire departments in the U.S. that have drone programs spoke out against blocking Chinese drones because they literally can't get away from them and don't have alternatives.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, as of March this year, Texas had 966 drones registered with state police and sheriff's departments, of which 879 were made by DJI. 56 of the 87 drones that were not made by DJI were also made by Chinese firms or by companies associated with China.

The report also mentions that 80 percent of the drones used by U.S. farmers are DJI drones. The U.S. distributor of DJI equipment said U.S. farmers have been steadily increasing their use of drone spraying in recent years, and in 2023, drones sprayed 3.7 million acres (about 1.49 million hectares) in 41 states, covering 50 crops, most of them with Chinese-made drones.

Adam Welsh, DJI's head of global policy, warned that if the government ultimately passes a ban, it will hurt not only DJI, but many different verticals in the U.S., including agriculture.
