It has to be said that the festive atmosphere in the United States is really thick!
Why do Americans like Halloween so much?
Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic Samhain. The Celts believed that October 31 was the end of summer and the beginning of winter. On this day, the boundaries between yin and yang became blurred, and the spirits would return to the world. This mysterious ancient tradition has been retained in the process of evolution. When Irish and Scottish immigrants brought the customs of Halloween to the United States in the 19th century, it gradually merged with American native culture.
The United States is an immigrant country, and the celebration of Halloween integrates cultural elements of multiple ethnicities. In addition to the traditions of the Celts, immigrants from other European countries have also brought their own customs. For example, the folk legends of German immigrants have enriched the content of ghost stories about Halloween; some practices of Italian immigrants for festival decorations and food are also integrated into it. This blend of multiculturalism makes Halloween more attractive.
Common activities and features of Halloween: Many families start decorating their homes several weeks in advance. They place jack-o'-lanterns at the door and place scarecrows, spider webs, and skeletons in the yard to create a festive atmosphere.
Trick-or-treat: On Halloween (October 31), children will dress up in costumes and go door-to-door. Most families will prepare candy in advance, such as chocolate bars, lollipops, caramels, and various snacks. This activity usually takes place in the evening and at night, and children can walk around the neighborhood to collect a lot of candy and experience the joy of the festival.
Costume party: People wear special costumes, such as cosplay anime characters or historical celebrities, or dress up as witches and werewolves for parties. Everyone wears their own unique costumes, dances and plays games together, and enjoys the joyful atmosphere of the festival.
Halloween has become a deeply rooted cultural phenomenon in the United States. It integrates joy, creativity, social interaction and other elements, allowing people to let go of themselves and enjoy the fun of life on this special day.
